Our values
People are at the centre of everything we do. Diversity is important to us and we seek to welcome and involve people from all sections of the community.
We aim to achieve the highest standards of professionalism in our work, and in our dealings with victims and witnesses and with each other.
Our independence is important. It gives us freedom to say and do whatever we think is necessary to benefit victims of crime and witnesses.
We seek to be innovative and to learn, to ensure that more is done to help victims and witnesses.
We work in partnership with individuals, with communities, and with other organisations to promote the rights of victims and witnesses and to improve our services to them.
We put these values into practice through the following principles:
- aiming to ensure that our services are equally accessible, for example supporting people in their first or preferred language
- being an independent voluntary organisation that works alongside the criminal justice system, government, and other national and local organisations
- involving volunteers from local communities and working with other community organisations
- aiming to provide a high-quality service and develop a culture of continuous innovation and improvement
- ensuring that our services are confidential and free of charge. Information disclosed by people will not be shared outside Victim Support without the express consent of the person concerned, except where someone's safety is at risk or where required by law
- helping people find support from other sources if we cannot offer them the service they need.
Victim Support does not make public statements on the punishment and sentencing of offenders, except when discussing issues that directly involve the victim, for example compensation or protection.
We have a Diversity statement that builds on these values and principles to help us work towards fair treatment for everyone with whom we work.
