Victim Support is here to help anyone affected by crime – not only victims and witnesses, but their friends, family and other people caught up in the aftermath.

And because we’re an independent charity, you can talk to us whether or not you’ve reported the crime to the police. We’ll support you and won’t involve the rest of the criminal justice system unless you want us to (or unless it’s an emergency and we think someone is at risk). We are here just to support you.

When you first speak to us, one of our victim care officers will ask you some questions about what has happened and how you think you’ve been affected by the crime. If you want our support, we’ll put together a ‘helping plan’ just for you. The help we give falls into three main kinds, whether you’re a victim or a witness of crime:

We can give you support over the phone or face-to-face. We can arrange visits to your home or somewhere else that you feel safe. We’ll be there for as long as you need us.  We work with a wide range of charities to help you find the strength for a wide range of situations.

We also know that crime affects everyone differently. Whatever your sex, age, race, faith, sexuality or lifestyle and whatever crime you’ve experienced, we can help you deal with what you’ve been through. We won’t discriminate.

If you want to find out more about how important diversity is to us, you can read our Equality and diversity policy(169 KB).

Experience you can trust

Victim Support is the oldest and largest organisation for victims and witnesses of crime in the world. We’ve been helping people to cope with crime for over 35 years. Since we began we’ve supported well over 25 million victims and witnesses. Last year alone we supported over 1.1 million victims and helped 268,000 witnesses.

Our facts and figures page gives you more information about how many people we help and you can also read about our history and key achievements and hear from just a few of the people we've helped.
