Structure and governance
Victim Support is an independent charity for victims and witnesses. We operate across England and Wales – there are separate, but related, charities for victims and witnesses in other parts of the UK.
Our work is co-ordinated from our National Centre in London but we are very much a community organisation. We provide a way for people, our volunteers, to do something positive about crime in their own community. With that in mind, we have designed ways for local people to be involved in the running of our charity. If you want to read more about how that works, or how you could get involved, please see our governance pages.
Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal is our President and a huge supporter of our work. You can read about some of the things she does for Victim Support in our news pages.
Our Board of Trustees is a group of people responsible for the overall running and direction of Victim Support. The board usually has 12 members who have either been elected or specifically been recruited. They come from a range of backgrounds to help run our charity effectively. They produce an annual report every year to formally account for the work of our charity. The Board also has a number of committees to help with more detailed aspects of running a large, national charity. There are more details on our governance pages.
The Board of Trustees employs the senior Corporate Management Team, led by Chief Executive Javed Khan, to look after the day-to-day running of the charity.
We have around 1,800 staff around England and Wales. Much of their work is to support and guide our 6,500 volunteers who do most of the work of supporting victims and witnesses. You can find out about what it’s like to work for Victim Support and our Witness Service, both as a paid employee and a volunteer, in our jobs section.
As a community organisation, we take diversity and equal opportunities very seriously. You can download our Equality and diversity policy(169 KB) to find out more.
