The Home Office has today (Friday 26 October) published information online about all the police and crime commissioner (PCC) candidates standing for election on 15 November in every police force area in England and Wales, outside London.
Among their many responsibilities, PCCs will be required to listen to victims and witnesses and will soon be given the responsibility of buying services to support them.
Over the past two months Victim Support has been asking PCC candidates to sign up to a manifesto which makes five promises to put victims first, if they are elected. You can see the full list of candidates who have signed up so far here.
Javed Khan, Chief Executive of Victim Support said:
“Nearly 120 PCC candidates have signed up to the Victim Support manifesto, so far. We’re now urging people who are thinking about how to vote to check if the candidates in their local area have signed up. Anyone can be a victim of crime, so it’s in all our interests to vote with victims in mind on 15 November.”
The Electoral Commission has also published information online about voting in the PCC elections.
