Javed Khan took time out recently to meet up with our dedicated volunteers in a visit to Nottingham.
First up were our Witness Service volunteers who give invaluable help and support to witnesses giving evidence in courts across Nottinghamshire. Giving evidence can be a nerve wracking and intimidating experience. Javed heard how our volunteers help witnesses make sense of the court system through pre-trial visits and by being there as a source of information and support when the case goes to court.
Later in the day he hooked up with volunteers from our Nottingham city base who go out and give invaluable one-to-one support to victims of crime in their community. The help and support they give helps people find the strength to move and their dedication means they are there for as long as it takes.
Throughout the day there was lots of discussion and ideas about partnership working and improving the help and support we give, as well as suggestions on how Victim Support can meet the challenges of the future.
Commenting on the day, Olwen Edwards, Divisional Manager for Nottinghamshire, said: “It was a really great day, with lots of discussion and ideas. Our volunteers really the appreciated the opportunity to share their invaluable experience and ideas on how we can improve the help and support we give.”
