Victim Support scoops best picture

Our photo of a young girl giving evidence in court won this year’s NCVO competition, which was held to illustrate the positive impact charities have on individuals and communities.
Martyn Lewis, NCVO chair and broadcaster, announced that Victim Support was the winner at NCVO’s Annual Conference and presented Victim Support’s Javed Khan with a cheque for £100 to help with our work in supporting people affected by crime.
The image beat stiff competition from forty other charities and was submitted to demonstrate a typical court scene, because photography is not allowed during real court proceedings.
Commenting, Javed Khan, Chief Executive of Victim Support, said: “Every day our dedicated volunteers in Witness Service do a fantastic job in helping children find the courage to give evidence. A court can be a daunting and frightening environment for a child, even with special measures to protect them. This is why we are delighted to have won this award for an image which portrays this in such as powerful way.”
Martyn Lewis, NCVO Chair, added: “This has been a truly inspirational competition. The quality of entries has been fantastic all round. The photographs clearly convey and highlight the important work voluntary and community organisations are doing up and down the country to build a good society.”
